Alfonso H. Ngan from University of Hong Kong opened the presentation at 8:30 am. The 30 minute presentation revolved around establishing relations between size, micro-structure and strength particularly in metal pillars and wires.
During the talk he shared a very significant point on Taylor hardening equation -
(Size dependence (D) on Strength)
He explained that m is not a material constant. It depends on existing micro-structure, meaning, same material possessing distinct dislocation density will contain different m value.
This is a very important point of consideration for materials scientists working in the area of micro-mechanical relations.
