EM4: Structure-Property Relationships of Organic Semiconductors

MB5 : Size effects of Metals with Real Microstructures

Alfonso H. Ngan from University of Hong Kong opened the presentation at 8:30 am. The 30 minute presentation revolved around establishing relations between size, micro-structure and strength  particularly in metal pillars and wires.

During the talk he shared a very significant point on Taylor hardening equation -

Taylor

(Size dependence (D) on Strength)

He explained that is not a material constant. It depends on existing micro-structure, meaning, same material possessing distinct dislocation density will contain different value.

This is a very important point of consideration for materials scientists working in the area of micro-mechanical relations.
