Introduction to Blogger - Bharati Neelamraju

I am a PhD candidate in Material Science and Engineering at the University of Arizona, graduating in December 2019. I am an experimental researcher working on understanding the microstructure - charge transport properties and stability of doped organic  semiconductors for application in opto-electronic devices such as solar windows and flexible wearable devices etc. I intend to move into the industry post PhD, ideally in the research and development end of the next generation of electronics.

I also believe science and engineering  needs to be taken beyond the lab, by engaging the public in a dialogue about current research problems and developments in the field. Introduction to Blogger: Chiung-Wei Huang

I’m a chemistry graduate student at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill where I study nanomaterials for solar cell, a system that can turn sunlight into fuel. I’m interested in developing spectroscopic and microscopic techniques to reveal the structural, optical, and electronic properties on nanometer length scales.

Outside of the lab, I love practicing scientific communication skills. I’ve been involved in writing, editing and serving as a coordinator for the science writing community. When I’m not on work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, also a chemist, and my two young children.

Introduction to the bloggers: Rahim Munir

I am Rahim Munir, a postdoctoral research fellow at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin under the supervision of Dr. Eva Unger. I am figuring out ways to print perovskite solar cells on the large area through slot die coating. I am passionate about science communication and open access research. I enjoy reading oriental philosophy and self-help books. My favorite books are the power of habit, the wisdom of insecurity, and the alchemist. I have delivered several invited talks about leadership and communication, using social media to promote research, solar cells, and pathways to study on scholarships in several universities across Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. I interview scientists/editors to get their opinion about science communication and tips for improving the research papers, presentations, and posters. My personal blog is “Succinct Monograph.”

I did my Ph.D. from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), where my flagship project was to study the growth of perovskite layer through grazing incidence wide-angle x-ray scattering (GIWAXS). I used spin coating and blade coating techniques extensively to study the solution to thin film transformation. I completed my Master's studies from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). I tweet at @rahim_munir1.

Keroles Riad- Bio

I am very excited to be a part of the "Materials Connect" bloggers team! I am eager to practice my scicomm skills. I will be posting about nanotechnology, 3D printing, environment, safety, and science dissemination! 

In my PhD research, I develop new materials for stereolithography 3D printing addressing the stability of 3D-printed parts in sunlight, as well as their mechanical properties. This includes new catalysts that are sensitive exclusively to light outside the solar spectrum, and the ability of graphene oxide to self-assemble using light. My research is supported by NSERC.

I also lead the "Waste Not, Want Not" compost collaboration, which has doubled Concordia's composting since our inception.
