Mega Monday and the intro by Prof. Whitesides

MRS is here! I first took advantage of some of the tutorials, while waiting for the energy forum to begin. I found them hugely useful, especially as a good intro to some of the heftier talks that will be taking place later on in the week. But I really caught the excitement of MRS during the talk by Professor Whitesides, from Harvard. In his overview of the daunting and critical task facing material scientists he touched on the vast expanse of issues critical to an energy discussion.

"This is the big one"
During the talk you realized how many aspects to the problem there really are. And how critical is that we attack all the aspects if we ever hope to come up with some solutions. I really appreciated how he gave graduate students a nod in terms of how to start thinking about tackling this issue. To start thinking of these problems in the broadest sense possible made a lot of sense, especially in terms of its relation to our political and social climate.

Speaking of which, if you havent already make sure you stop by the Materials Voice booth and write your senators about the need for more science funding! This is no joke, I feel like I have been seeing a lot of science funding getting cut recently.
